Salon de l’Agriculture: Paris’ Best Food Festival

Like every year, my husband Laurent and I spent a day at the Salon de l’Agriculture in Paris. And if you are ever in Paris by the end of February, I strongly recommend you do the same.

This annual event brings together France’s agricultural community, showcasing everything from livestock to the finest regional foods. The Salon de l’Agriculture is THE BEST place and time to eat yourself through the different French regions, without even leaving Paris.

A Taste of France at the Salon de l’Agriculture

One of the fair’s highlights is undoubtedly the opportunity to sample food from all over France. Did you always dream of tasting an authentic Aligot? Or A traditional Sorbet Coco? Or why not cheese straight from Savoie? Then the Salon de l’Agriculture is a place not to miss.

Because tasting our way through France? That’s exactly what we did. Each stall presented something unique: cheeses from Normandy, choucroute from Alsace, beer from Lille, and, of course, wines from the French wine regions.

It was a gastronomic adventure, one bite at a time. And the best: the samples are free!

Amidst the feasting and tasting, an important competition unfolds: Le Concours Général Agricole. Most products, but also the animals, that are presented at the Salon de l’Agriculture are entering the competition.

Winning a medal? That’s the reason, most exhibitors are at the Salon in the first place.

Earning gold, silver, or bronze medals is a testament to their dedication and hard work. And kicks off some extra sales as the medal is displayed on the stall at the event, and later on as a sign of quality on the product itself.

And it makes it easy to find the best treats on this Paris food fest: just look for the medals!

A Fair with History: The 60th Edition

The Salon de l’Agriculture is not just any event, it’s a French tradition that celebrates its 62nd edition in 2026. Over the decades, it has grown into the most significant agricultural show in France.

Beyond the festivities, it’s also a. platform for dialogue and many demonstrations. Before the fair, the French farmers often manifest their concerns.

It’s almost a tradition that they bring their tractors and heavy machines up to the capital, and block the freeway ring around the Paris for a bit.

These manifestations highlight the fair’s importance as a moment for the agricultural community to voice their issues and stand united against EU and government decisions. Which are, more often than not, not in favor of the farmers.

But no worries, it’s a peaceful protest that is very sector-centric. If you’re not concerned with agriculture, you will not hear or see anything of it.

Salut from Paris: Our YouTube Debut!

But in 2024 we did not only eat and drink while visiting the Salon de l’Agriculture. Laurent and I used the occasion to film our very first YouTube Video, marking the debut of our YouTube channel: Salut from Paris.

Laurent and I both work as content creators. But while I am specialized in travel planning and Paris, he is an expert in everything related to food and drinks. Especially rum, whiskey and other spirits. You can find him here on Les Rhums de l’Homme à la Poussette or on Instagram.

So, I am very excited to start a joint project on YouTube, that combines our both specialties.

• See the Animals: Especially the Parisian kids are enthusiastic about seeing animals like cows, sheep, pigs, and goats from close. But it’s impressive for grown-ups as well – some animals are massive!
• Learn and Discover: Beyond tasting, the fair is a fantastic place to learn about sustainable farming practices, animals, innovations, and the challenges facing today’s agricultural sector.

Visitors Tip: The Salon de l’Agriculture easily becomes very packed. To avoid the biggest crowds, visit Monday, Tuesday, or Friday.
